Last Tuesday (10 September) afternoon, Mayor João Vianey de Sousa Alencar and representatives of the company Queiroz Galvão Energias Renováveis got together in Serra da Batinga to issue a service order for the construction of a wind farm in the municipality of Caldeirão Grande do Piauí.
The region, known as Chapada do Araripe, is among the areas in Brazil with the greatest wind power potential. This was confirmed after a study commissioned in 2010 from a specialized company. According to the report, the region, which consists of a plateau, has a number of favorable characteristics and has an air current with winds from the coast and other regions.
Initially, 416 megawatts of energy will be generated in the municipality of Caldeirão Grande. The investments being made by Queiroz Galvão Energias Renováveis will amount to R$1.48 billion during the project’s initial phase and may reach R$3 billion altogether. The plan is to install 154 wind turbines.
According to João Vianey, the construction will bring several benefits for his municipality. The mayor is confident that the implementation of the wind farm will definitely put Caldeirão Grande on the road to development.
“It will certainly drive our economy. The contract represents a lot for this region. It will result in development and the generation of income and employment", João Vianey was happy to say.
